East Austin Named One of America’s Hippest Neighborhoods (pics)

Forbes’ named East Austin the  no. 7 hippest hipster neighborhood in America, beating out other popular spots  such as New Orlean’s Warehouse District and Downtown Portland.

Though there is nothing remotely groundbreaking about this honor, it’s always fun to see our little neighborhood mentioned in the press.

The Armageddon-like proportions of Austin’s allergies are making it difficult for me to walk, let alone think right now, so in lieu of a waxed poem about my beloved neighborhood, I’m going to share with you some of my favorite East Austin photos I’ve taken over the years.

Though I’ve had my ups and downs with the neighborhood, there is no place else I’d rather live in Austin (except for maybe Hyde Park).

i’ve decided that the best way to go would be drowning in a bread bowl of soup at gourmand’s.

Tell me about it! Last night we went there and I finally got to try the black bean soup! My favorite is still the cream of mushroom.

A little later this month, I am going to “Hearts and Robots” off 13th and rosewood, the name itself was so adorable I had to give it a spin. Most salons are so expensive in Austin, but the price was right, sorry Urban Betty!

I have been wanting to give the east-side a try, it is quickly becoming drinking (if you are into that) escape from the yuppy to fratty continuum of sixth street. North ATX with the exception of Anderson Lane is so boring. I may consider moving there once I get my financial ducks in a row.

I used to live near the old Hearts and Robots. Never went there, but they seem like nice folk. Let me know how it goes! I need a haircut!
