Help Me Pick Out A Title For My New Blog!

Hipstercrite isn’t going anywhere. I will be chained to this mo-fo for the rest of my f’ing life.

I decided to start a new blog though. One that I felt didn’t fit the confines of Hipstercrite.

It is a neighborhood blog about East Austin. Sort of in the same vein as Fucked in Park Slope. Except amongst the humor, there will be the occasional crime alert because I believe that stuff is important (i.e. I’m a paranoid crazy).

The blog will have new store/restaurant openings, events, stories, interviews, crime alerts, photos, news roundups and ramblings.

I have the blog all ready to go but I’m not sold on the title. This is where I want you to help me!

Currently the blog is titled “East of Austin”. It’s simple, to the point and references literature (I soundz smart!). However, I’m not sure if it’s too simple? I’d like something a little more unique, but without having a title that a “teenage girl would come up with”, says a friend (i.e. No “Dreaming in East Austin”).

This is what I’ve come up with for now. Which one do you like? Or, if these are all shitty, tell me what title you’d like to see and if I choose it, I will link to your blog on the new site with the statement, “(Your name) is soooo sexy” next to it.

-East of Austin
-East Austintatious
-God Damn, East Austin (friend came up with this one)
-Bobo/Boho’d in East Austin OR East Austin Bobo/Boho (“Bobo” has more of a negative connotation than “Boho” does)
-East Austin Mod
-East Austin Party
-East Austin Underground
-East Austin Superstar

God Damn, East Austin. For sure. It’s strong, funny, an applicable utterance at times.

I’m so afraid I’m going to offend the Christians though!

I think you might limit your visitor universe if you have “East Austin” in your title. Having just left Austin I can honestly say that BEFORE I moved there that “East Austin” had no meaning to a non-Austinite. Also parts of East Austin are slowly becoming desirable places to live and I think real-estate agents would not be thrilled with the idea of a blog that might extenuate existing stigmas.

With all that said…I will be brainstorming blog names while I work today. I love East Austin and we would have moved there eventually if we hadn’t relocated to the Northwest . . . and I will be following your blog…regardless of the name 🙂

I agree, but it will be a blog about East Austin, so I’m trying to appeal to people who live here. Let me know what you come up with! 🙂

I like the simplicity of east of austin

I live in the Rock & rOltorf neighborhood

Lower East Side! Home of Cheeseburger Josh! I said I ordered a Cheeseburger!

    • Reply hipstercrite May 21, 2012 at 4:40 pm

      Whaaaa?

    • Reply Tim May 21, 2012 at 6:10 pm

Rock & rOltorf is definitely my new favorite name for my hood.

Your first post should be about the dangers of the crazy ass guard dogs that roam that area you have pictured in this post. I tried to do a photo shoot under that bridge and almost got eaten by a German Shepherd. Scary as shit.

    • Reply hipstercrite May 21, 2012 at 4:40 pm

      Really? Wow. I didn’t know. That’s scary. Isn’t it a public area?

      • Reply Joanna May 21, 2012 at 5:25 pm

Yes but there’s a house right by that’s obviously owned by people who don’t want anyone coming near their place. I think the dogs gout out of their fence. Super scary.

I grabbed EastsideATX.com the other day. It’s mine you can’t have it!

You might talk to whoever owns eastaustinite.com though, it was a nice eastside blog but nothing’s happened with it in a while.

Out of the list, I vote GDEA

    • Reply hipstercrite May 21, 2012 at 4:41 pm

      I don’t want it! 😉
It is a nice blog! It’s sad that they haven’t done anything in awhile.
You don’t think I’d offend people with “God Damn”?

      • Reply Aasim Syed May 21, 2012 at 4:51 pm

“God Damn” just doesn’t sound good to me. Not offensive to me, personally, but just kind of doesn’t feel right.

      • Reply David L May 21, 2012 at 6:01 pm

Doubt you’ll offend eastsiders who hardly bat an eyelash at “nudist” bicyclists (as a visiting friend called the thong biker guy yesterday).

  • Reply Aasim Syed May 21, 2012 at 4:45 pm

What about “East is East”? A nice reference to Kipling, too.

    “Eastern Promises”?

    “Modern Miss Modery’s Eastern Almanac”?

    “Sunrise East of I-35”?

    “The Local Yokel’s Eastside Report”?

    • Reply hipstercrite May 21, 2012 at 5:35 pm

      you’re very creative, aasim!

Is East of Austin supposed to be a play on East of Eden? Cause outside of that, east of Austin just makes me think of bastrop or something.

hahaha! these are too funny! hipstercreast. love it.

    I’m going to miss Hipstercrite!

    • Reply hipstercrite May 21, 2012 at 5:34 pm

Oh, Hipstercrite isn’t going anywhere! It’s a separate blog!

      • Reply Allison May 21, 2012 at 6:54 pm

I misread it as “Hipstercrite isn’t going anywhere” as in it’s a deadend, not how you intended it. My bad.

        Yay!

  • Reply Theresa May 21, 2012 at 5:36 pm

“Goddamn, East Austin” is cute, with the double meaning.

Urban Dictionary says, “To enhance or to replace a well used word to make the situation or person to sound bad or good.”

    • Reply hipstercrite May 21, 2012 at 5:40 pm

now the question is: should it be “goddamn” or “god damn”?

  • Reply annie May 21, 2012 at 7:10 pm

    i like east of austin.
that would make a good tshirt.

    • Reply hipstercrite May 21, 2012 at 9:56 pm

      thanks, annie!

  • Reply SweatyGirl May 21, 2012 at 9:12 pm

My vote is definitely for East of Austin.

I love God Damn, East Austin. But like you said about the Christians (of which, I am not) it might be read as “god damns east austin” and that ain’t very nice.

    • Reply hipstercrite May 21, 2012 at 10:14 pm

      yeah…hmmm….maybe i need to feel comfortable with causing controversy? i don’t know…

  • Reply Israel Carrasco May 21, 2012 at 11:21 pm

How about: Don’t Mess with East Austin

    • Reply hipstercrite May 22, 2012 at 7:16 pm

      Pretty clever!

  • Reply Adria May 21, 2012 at 11:59 pm

I like “East of Austin” the best! “God damn, East Austin” is catchy, but a little bit abrasive and not in the right way, I don’t think. Stick to your guns on this one.

    • Reply hipstercrite May 22, 2012 at 7:15 pm

Thanks, Adria. Right now it’s Goddamn, East Austin and East of Austin (it has two URLs). I’ll decided after a week or so which one will stay.

  • Reply bard May 22, 2012 at 6:02 am

I don’t necessarily think any of these are the answer, but they may tickle your creativity:

    The Right Side of Austin

    Austin Right

    Austin Done Right

  • Reply bard May 22, 2012 at 6:45 am

    Righteous Austin?

  • Reply Kristin May 22, 2012 at 6:46 am

    How about:

    Austin East Infection

or East Hipster, so you can keep your branding.

    Eastof35.com is available, too.

Good luck with your new blog. I’ll look forward to reading it!

Scratch that last one. I think the vodka was kicking in.

    😉

    • Reply hipstercrite May 22, 2012 at 7:11 pm

Hee hee. I should have maybe been drinking vodka when coming up with titles. Right now, it’s “Goddamn, East Austin”. It could change.

  • Reply Megan May 23, 2012 at 1:14 am

As a native Texan (and a Christian) I don’t find God damn East Austin offensive. In fact, I feel like “God damn East Austin” sounds pretty Texan to me–i imagine an ornery old curmudgeon saying “God damn it!”. I like it!
