Just When I Thought I Was I Through Listening to the SXSW Line-Up…

….a gazillion more people are added.

Thanks to the wise folks over at Austin music blog Ultra 8201 for sharing this list.

Bands You’ve Probably Heard Of:

Les Savy Fav (Brooklyn)
Spoon (Austin)
The xx (London)

Favorite Band Name:

Bear in Heaven (Brooklyn)- This makes me think of a lonely stuffed Teddy Bear sitting on a bunch of clouds looking down at all the fun he’s missing on planet Earth. It makes me sad. Good thing the bad is pretty kickin’.

Band of Skulls (London) Karen O?

Least Favorite Band Name:
Cymbal Eats Guitar (NYC)- Really? That is the best you could come up with? Don’t let the name deter you. They’re actually pretty fun.

Sigh, Another “Wolf” Something Or Other:
Wolfgang Gartner (Austin)- Ugh….and he’s a DJ. No more DJs.

Wait, I Think My Ex-Boyfriend Told Me About This Band And I Definitely Was Not Paying Attention:

Hudson Mohawke (Scotland)- Slow hip hop synth kind of stuff with no vocals. What kind of genre is that? This band has killer graphics. Now I see why ex-boyfriend liked them.
Southern California Is Overrated:
The Soft Pack (San Diego)- Wait. These guys are going to be on Letterman!?
Shwayze (Malibu)- What band actually comes from Malibu? Hipsters who kind of name themselves after an 80’s icon, that’s who.
Steve Aoki (Los Angeles)- I’m so sick of DJs. I remember this guy used to spin at MOCA parties. I still don’t like you.
Murs (Los Angeles)
LA Riots– What is Los Angeles, just full of freakin’ house music?
This Band Is From the Same Town in Germany as My Best Friend Michael, So They Must Know Each Other:
Hauschka (Dusseldorf)- pleasant piano tunes

Texas Rappers 4 Life:

Chalie Boy (Hearne)
Trae (Houston)

Someone Is a Little Too Into Themselves:
Mr. Hudson– Who the fuck calls themselves “mister” under 40 years of age? Look at that picture. LOOK AT IT! P.S. Your music sucks.
I’ve Decided That Every Band Sounds Like 1 or More of Any of These Singers/Bands- New Order, Morrissey, Arthur Russell, or Coldplay:
The Drums (Brooklyn)
The Middle East (Australia)

    Dear Hipstercrite,

I am very excited to see Broken Social Scene on that list. Theyhave a new album coming up in May!

Oky, I'm really here in hopes that you will agree with me that the 90's are SO going to be "in", I mean, it's been 10 years, isn't it about time?
Okay, really I just need some justification for the fact that i've been listening to Lisa Loeb for the past week. Because I may or may not be the first person to listen to her since 1997.

Please agree with me on this one, I need it!

@Christian Lopez- I liked The Drums too!

@Colleen- No, I think you're totally right. Fashion is already going that way. I think it's just hard for people to realize that the 90's was not yesterday. It was 20 years ago! (I think my heart just sank).

srsly, between juggling the Coachella lineup and SXSW I'm in a musical FRENZY and I kinda like it..esp bc i just found out I might get to cover coachella…which means MEDIA PASSES….now I just need that to happen for SXSW.

I love love love Broken Social Scene! (:

And not to hate but Bear in Heaven is not my kinda band name, ahaha.

And that Mr. Hudson guy looks very gay which is ironic to his album name.

@Julie- I'm very envious of you. Music festivals are meant to be experienced at press or VIP level only. 😉
I still can't believe Sly & the Family Stone is supposed to be playing Coachella!

@Kayla- Broken Social Scene is great. Like all Canadian bands. But listen to Bear in Heaven…it's such a great band.

@Maria Elise- Isn't it crazy to think about? Sometimes I still feel like I'm 8 years old. 🙁

God I love Zooey Deschanel and her amazing voice. When She & Him started I jumped right on that bandwagon.

I swear you are going to make me uproot my family and move to Austin.

I love Zooey too, and I love the song Daylight by Matt and Kim, but I know nothing else about them.

Love the guy in the marigold undies being Sharpied.

Thanks for this. I shall start downloading immediately.

PS: Dear Zooey Deschanel: Stop being the cutest thing that ever existed.

Thanks for making me laugh when I'm feeling under the weather! Now I'm gonna spend all day listening to all the gazillions of new bands on both Coachella and SXSW line-ups. They are crazy. One day. One day I will get there.

Yet another reason for me to love Zooey Deschanel. Thanks for listing those bands, I'm checking them out now. Also, Mr. Hudson is in Kanye West's camp, which may explain any underlying aversion.
