Austin Loves The F Out Of Blogging

It comes as no surprise to me that Austin, Texas is the top city for blogging. I learned this the other day while reading UT student Brittney Simmons’ article about local Austin blogs. I know for one that my blog would not be where it is today without the support of other Austin bloggers. The blogging community here is unlike anything I have ever experienced. We give out awards! We have parties! We write articles about each other! It’s pretty mind-blowing, really. I feel extremely lucky to live in such a creatively supportive city. So deprived was I of genuine human contact in Los Angeles that I still often find myself tearing up over beautiful moments of altruism, kindness, and encouragement that I experience or witness on a daily basis in this wonderful city.

As I mentioned the other day, and which I still can’t believe, Hipstercrite is nominated in three categories at the Austin Blogger Awards. I already follow a good chunk of Austin blogs, but reading the list of nominees introduced me to a slew of others that remind me of just how many talented people live in this town! Don’t forget to vote here!

I know at this point you’re probably barfing over my gushing of Austin and its people. The fact is, every bit of it is true, so I wanted to give all of you non-Austinites a little taste of our wonderful city and how we really love the f*ck out of blogging.

Here are some of my favorite Austin blogs:

Austin Eavesdropper (Austin lifestyle/goings-on)– I always call Tolly the Momma Blogger of Austin and it’s true. She put together the fantastic blogger meet-up, The Bleet-Up, which will be happening this evening at the Downtown Whole Foods Rooftop 7PM. Tolly is not only a very talented writer but she genuinely loves this city and all its people. She has always been supportive of others and it shows in her blog.

Republic of Austin (Austin lifestyle/goings-on)– Just like Tolly, Chris Apollo Lynn is another key figure in the Austin blogging world. I’m now going to dub him Poppa Blogger of Austin. He is the gentleman who put together the Austin Blogger Awards and his blog, The Republic of Austin, was voted “Best Local Blog” by readers of The Austin Chronicle. Though the man dubbed “Best Local Blogger” writes a lot of magic himself, the Republic of Austin has a wonderful line-up of contributors that you can check out here.

Amber Demure (Humor)– Amber is one of the funniest local bloggers I’ve read. Not only is she witty and self-deprecating, she draws humorous pictures that cater to my five year-old self. Amber is not afraid to talk about drinking alone (f yeah!) or her muffin top or her dates with boys. I always love a pretty girl who can make fun of herself and you can read more of Amber here and here.

Adored Austin (Fashion)– Adored Austin was one of the first Austin blogs I discovered and I’ve been a fan ever since. The blog’s author, Indiana Adams, not only shares with us local fashion events, latest fashion finds, and fashion DIY, she also let’s us take peak into her picture-book life with Hubs and new baby, Jude. Indiana has great style and adds a splash of humor to her vibrant blog.

East Austinite (Lifestyle/East Austin)- I love East Austinite because it’s about my hood. East Austin is like most “Eastsides” in cities- artsy, funky, cultural, and distinct. There is ALWAYS something wonderful and exciting going on in East Austin, whether it be the East Austin Studio Tour or the East Austin Drive-In, and this website is the go-to place for the latest news and events.

Here are a list of my other favorite blogs. Unfortunately I don’t have time to write up synopsis on each of them (i.e. I guess I should be working now) but they’re ALL worth checking out. You can also see the list of local blogs nominated at the Austin Blogger Awards here.

Angeliska Gazette (Personal/Pop Culture)
Austin Bloggy Limits (Music/Events)
Party Ends (Music/Events)
Etsy Austin (Arts/Crafts)
Keep Austin Stylish (Fashion)
Sailor Legs (Music/Events)
Ultra 8201 (Music/Events)
uLOVEi (Events)

Checking out Amber Demure right now, she looks awesome! I love bloggers who draw 🙂

There seems to be a decent blogging community in SF, but I think it might be a bit too large to feel like a community. Oh well!

Indiana Adams… what a cool freakin' name. It is almost as cool as Hisptercrite, but not quite.

Sad I couldn't meet up with you during the bleet up on Friday, but maybe we'll run into each other again at some other s!a! event. Heard about your win, so congrats!

Time to do some browsing, thanks for the tips. Oh and congrats on the nominations.

To be honest I've only really found a few bloggers here in Chicago. Not that I've really looked though. I'm sure it'll pick up this winter when we're all snowed in. At least the crack is really cheap here.
