Silver Foxettes

A few months ago, frequent Huffington Post blogger Lesley M. M. Blume (really?) posted an opinion editorial piece on the six most beautiful older women in the world. Her choices were; Helen Mirren, Iman (54 is old?), Carmen Dell’orefice, Anjelica Huston, Sofia Loren, and Gloria Steinem. Though I agree with each and everyone of her choices, I’m disappointed she only came up with six! Also, I find it funny that “the world” pretty much encompasses women who are popular in America and Western Europe.

Here are my top twelve choices of the most beautiful older women in “the world”.
1.) Cloris LeachmanMy number one favorite. The only other woman, besides my grandmother, that I hope to be like one day. She turned 84 in April and had one hell of a run on “So You Think You Can Dance?”

2.) Ellen Burstynthis Oscar winning actress, famous for her roles in The Last Picture Show, The Exorcist, Alice Doesn’t Live Here Anymore, and Requiem for a Dream, turns 78 this year.

3.) Diane Keaton- still one of the most sought after actresses working in Hollywood, Diane Keaton turned 64 in January.

4.) Bernadette Peters- this talented singer, dancer, and actress turned 62 this year.

5.) Tina Turner- still singing and still kicking ass, Tina turns 71 in November.

6.) Lesley Ann Warren- this beautiful actress turns 64 this year.

7.) Karen Allen- recently reprised her role as Marion Ravenwood in the Indian Jones Adventures, this actress has spent most of the past decade selling her knits and teaching acting and yoga. She turns 59 this year.

8.) Mia Farrow- this model, actress, activist, ex of Woody Allen and Frank Sinatra, and mother of fifteen turned 65 in February.

9.) Ruby Dee- This stunning actress, playwright, and activist is turing 86 in October!

10.) Julie Christie- famous for her roles in Dr. Zhivago, Shampoo, and Away From Her turns 69.

11.) Beverly Johnson- One of the first popular African American models turns 58 this year.

12.) Stevie Nicks- The lead singer of Fleetwood Mac is 62 this year! Maybe too much blow is good for the skin?

"Maybe too much blow is good for the skin?"

    love it

also love your list. thank you for acknowledging graceful older beauty. i think we ladies need to relax a little and accept age with grace.

(something I know I will have a hard time with).

One perhaps glaring omission: Meryl Streep.

And a personal favorite: Dame Judi Dench.

I was watching an interview over the weekend which featured Raquel Welch. She said she was over 70 years old and looks fantastic. I think she was plugging a book or something.

Also, Judi Dench, Deanna Dunnagan, and Angela Freakin' Lansbury, who wore a bright red dress to the Tony Awards this year and looked better than Glee-a Michele…

sorry 'bout that. Although she most likely is loaded up on plastic surgery, shelby chong is pretty nice looking for an older gal!

    (tommy chong's wife).

I am incredibly surprised not to find Meryl Streep on this list. She is seriously one of the most beautiful women I have ever seen!

On a side note, I just ran across you blog today, I love it!

Lauren, I was so taken by this post, I linked you up from my blog. I hope you get some traffic. This is serious shit. Check out my post. I immediately thought of Meryl Streep and Susan Sarandan. Holly Hunter is 50 this year. What about Candace Bergen, Helen Mirren, and Lauren Hutton?

    What about me?

As much as I love the idea and inspiration of showcasing and admiring mature beauties, I can't help but be a little disappointed that there were no Asians on this list. Perhaps it's because they're not quite so abundant in the Western eye, but I think that they deserve accolades, too. But then, I'm afraid saying this sounds like "the Asian doth protest too much." I hope I'm not! I love this list (and you)!

I second Meryl Streep. And I'd also add Christine McVie, who has always been wrongfully eclipsed by Ms. Nicks!
