1.) This is one of my favorite finds. Artist Mike Oncley created a series of adorable 14 X 11 Annie Hall prints. Line them up on your wall, stare at them really hard and maybe you’ll find your mantra. Etsy $20
2.) So, I didn’t get to go to The Pee-Wee Herman Show in LA or NYC, but that doesn’t mean I’m still not saving myself for PW. What better way to say, “I have zero sex life because I fantasize about cultural icons from my childhood” than a Pee-Wee Herman purity ring?? Pee-Wee Herman Store $20
3.) Let’s just take all the work and originality out of being a photographer and add a fisheye, macro, or wide angle lens to our iPhones? What do you say? Photojojo $20-$40
4.) You know what? I’m sick of seeing mustaches everywhere. Lord knows I love a good mustache like any other misguided twenty-something living in Hipsterville , but I’m sick of seeing mustache emblems everywhere. Mustache pillows, mustache necklaces, mustache car ornaments? Well, what about the less appreciated but equally charming body adornment, the chest hair? The chest hair doesn’t nearly get enough love as it should and we all know how much I f’ing love chest hair. Though I couldn’t find any chest hair necklaces or pillows, I did find this lovely chest hair font t-shirt at Veer. Veer $22
5.) By far my favorite find. I laughed out loud when I saw this t-shirt, then I cried. It voices my sentiments exactly…and maybe a little of Hemingway’s. Ooooh snap! Man-on-man-Lost-Generation-author action! Etsy $18
6.) Who doesn’t have a schoolgirl crush on Ira Glass? Oh, you don’t? You don’t like men who sound like Woody Allen? You don’t like men who have to wear shoulder pads to give the illusion that they have bigger shoulders? You don’t like men who wear glasses that overtake their face? Good, leave them all to me! Etsy $13
7.) I would have rocked the crap out of this Ghostbusters backpack as a child. I probably would have slept with it and pretended that I was spooning Egon Spengler every night too. 80’s Tees $40
8.) If I could be anyone, it would be Amy Sedaris. Well, maybe the only other person I’d like to be is her brother, David Sedaris. If I could combine the two together- Amvid or Damy- then I’d be all set. Sedaris previous how-to book, I Like You: Hospitality Under the Influence is possibly one of my all-time favorite books, and Simple Times: Crafts for Poor People looks like it’s quickly climbing up the ranks. Amazon $14.51
9.) Shopgirl is one of my all-time favorite books. The Pleasure of My Company is not. Nonetheless, Steve Martin is a not-so-surprisingly gifted writer so I have no doubt that his new book, An Object of Beauty is a delightful read. Just don’t ask the audience at 92nd Street Y. This particular book is about an unscrupulous female art dealer climbing her way up in the New York City art world. Amazon $14.65
10.) I’ve written about the Guerilla Art Kit before in my Guerilla Art post. This book is a great gift for anyone who aspires to be a street artist but is too chicken to ever do anything about. In this book, one can do kindergarten-type urban art exercises such as leaving anonymous notes at public places and seed bombing the shit out of a vacant lot. Amazon $13.57
Oh man, I want the "I want to F. Scott Fitzgerald" t-shirt, that's amazing! I don't usually buy gifts this time of year, I'll bake some cookies and ship them out to my folks. But if I had the extra cash I'd pick up a few things on your list, very cool.
I don't normally do this, but I thought you kight enjoy my post today. It's about meeting Jason Schwartzman, a hipster icon!
My brush with fame…
I'm buying the F. Scott Fitzgerald shirt (for myself) as soon as I close this comment.
Also, I've been devouring "Crafts for Poor People". Ah..Amy and David; fucking love me some Sedari.
1. Ira Glass's voice is in my ear right now.
2. I loved both Shopgirl and The Pleasure of My Company. I read his auto bio too. Thank you for pointing me to An Object of Beauty. I haven't heard of it yet!
This may be the best gift list I'll see.
AHH, I saw the Ira Glass shirts a couple of weeks ago and thought about legitimately putting it on my wishlist. Then I thought that was way too hipster. : /
I think I totally missed Steve Martin as a writer. I enjoyed Shopgirl. I didn't realize it was a book!! Love the ghostbuster shirt & the Annie Hall prints!! =) I'm so sick of the mustache thing too! Yeesh! Great random gifts!
Oh man I am all sorts of in love with the hairy chest shirt! Meow!
The hairy chest shirt is just … well it's rendered me speechless.
Good stuff. Can't wait to see what makes the cut in Part 2!
La Di Da…
The Guerilla Art Kit book looks like a good read. Love all the Guerilla marketing books & didn't know this one existed!
i'm in the middle of reading "the pleasure of my company" right now…and i have to agree with you on that one. shopgirl's the tits!!
i didn't know he had written another novel though so i'm curious to see how this one shapes up as well!
I think I want the Ira Glass tote…
… one of thes days, there is going to be someone who obesses over you as other folks do the Sedaris kids!!
I must own the F Scott shirt. MUST OWN.
And I hate being so behind on your blog that I can't catch up in one sitting.
I would still rock that backback
