I Want You (But Mostly I Want Your Feedback)

Well it’s that time.
Time for the six month review.
A lot happened to Hipstercrite in 2009. In March, she went from being called PlasticLA (maybe I lived in Los Angeles, maybe I didn’t) to Hipstercrite. In July, I came across the WONDERFUL twenty-something blogger networking site, 20sb. which opened up the blogging world to me. Over the past six months, I’ve been fortunate enough to come across hundreds of amazing blogs (wait, “hundreds” seems like a lot, but “dozens” seems too little…is there something in between?). In November, I went to the Austin Bleet-Up hosted by the wonderful Austin Eavesdropper and got to meet many of the Austin bloggers. In December, I was lucky enough to be selected as Blogger’s, “Blog of Note”, along with the likes of some of my favorite blogs, Blackberries to Apples, My Soul is a Butterfly, Mr. London Street, The Badass Geek, and Meditations in an Emergency. I went from having 9 followers in March to over 850 now. Thank you so much to everyone who follows me and comments. You always make my day.
I can’t believe how far Hipstercrite has grown and I’m looking forward to an exciting 2010.
With all that fucking boring stuff said, I’m asking for feedback on what you like, dislike, blah blah blah BORING.
I know, I know.
But I’m really interested in what you have to say.
Content
-Do you like the humorous or reflective?
-What posts have stood out to you and why?
-What posts haven’t you liked and why?
Design (you don’t have to tell me that it looks like a 4 year-old child made this site)
-What design elements would you like to see on Hipstercrite?
-What do you think would make a good logo?
Oh, and if you feel so inclined, please vote for me at the 2010 Bloggies if you like my blog. I’m usually not about the self-promotion but some nice people voted for me and I figure why the f not?
Ugh.
This is lame.
Here.
Here is a picture of my ass.

I dig your blog…I've read several that I got bored with and kicked to the curb, but yours is always fresh. And even in the reflective posts, you throw in a few laughs, and that's great.

  • Reply That Chelsea Girl™ January 6, 2010 at 5:49 pm

I think yours has a good mix of being humorous and reflective, and that you shouldn't definitively choose one over the other as a common theme…I don't really think there's much of anythig you should change, as then you might not be the same blog in six months that I love now.

  • Reply Julie January 6, 2010 at 6:02 pm

I've followed since BON designation, and I read every time you post and enjoy it, even if I am an ancient 40 year old who won't be sporting the trendy motorcycle look this year. I agree with That Chelsea Girl and Wendybob, mostly because I want to look cool.

And anytime you follow up with a picture of your ass, how can you go wrong? Really. My ass on my blog? Delete! Delete! Delete!

Thanks for being you and putting it out there, baby!

asstastic!! i voted for you for most humorous blog and also best food blog (i had an empty spot and thought it couldnt hurt to put you and hannah down for a few extra..)
i love your humorous blogs, but your more reflective work is what really keeps me locked onto you. to have wit is a talent, but both wit AND substance? that's very rare, and why you are the total package!

  • Reply WILDasaMINK January 6, 2010 at 6:47 pm

I've been reading your blog for a short while now, but I have to say everytime I do come visit you have me laughing hysterically! Even with this post–the picture of your ass, that made me laugh (and I'm at work and should not be laughing out loud and giving away the fact that I'm not really working, but instead reading your blog!) Honestly, I love all your content so far….the witty humor, the sarcasm, it's great–it reminds me of my own personality and if I lived in Austin I might try to hang out with you!

Anyway, congrats on having such a successful blog in 2009–here's to much more success w/it in 2010!!!

Congrats on a great six months. It's amazing how awesome 20sb is. I just joined and it's been a whirlwind of spectacular blogs, great people and fun discussions. I think you should keep doing what you're are doing with your blog because obviously it is top notch with all the notoriety you have received as of late in the blogosphere. Congrats again 🙂 can't wait to read more hip-ster-krit!

The "REAL" of you makes yout blog one of my favorites.

From a readers standpoint, you seem sharp, real, and unpretentious. There is an edge to your writing that is not too dark, but just enough to cleanse my pallette for the right amout of sarcasm and wit.

Lastly, I can feel your humanity in your writing. Not sure if that's the sap in me, but I feel your heart is good – even when you can be a little bad.

    Hope this helps you!

    xxoo

Hahahah. I laughed out loud when I got to your ass. I mean, not in a bad way. It's a good ass. Though. Hannah and I both voted for me for best blogger ass, sooooo…. What? You wanna fight?

I honestly like your more reflective posts better. Of course I think you are funny, but the one post that really sticks out in my mind is the one you wrote last year and then posted like a month ago… about your 20s.

I would link to it, but my ass is too lazy (in addition to being awesome.)

  • Reply Mr London Street January 6, 2010 at 8:26 pm

I too think there's no harm in mixing funny posts and reflective posts. Many bloggers would envy your ability to move between styles like that so why tie yourself to one?

  • Reply withthejoneses January 6, 2010 at 8:43 pm

Even as someone who knows you I am constantly surprised by your insights and stories posted on this blog.

  • Reply Sassy January 6, 2010 at 9:44 pm

I vote for your ass. But seriously, the blog is great as is. Design bells and whistles are just that—bells and whistles. When you're smart and funny and awesome no one cares what your blog looks like.

  • Reply Hipstercrite January 6, 2010 at 9:54 pm

Wow, I didn't know this would turn into such an awesome-fest! Everyone, thank you so much for your kind words. You've made my day! I really appreciate the time you took to comment back, and the interest you have in my blog.

Don't change a thing… not what you write about, or how you write about it. Just be yourself… everyone else is taken.
Any changes you do make to your blog have to be for you.

I would like to see more pictures of your ass!

But other than that, I enjoy your reflective posts the most, especially the ones about Robert Blake, Leslie the homeless guy and your journey from L.A. to Austin (which you technically posted much earlier than the last six months but I enjoyed reading it again.) However all your posts are great, even if I find myself reading about ladies fashion, which wouldn't usually be my cup of tea.

I count myself lucky to have come across your blog.

  • Reply cjschlottman January 6, 2010 at 11:01 pm

    reflective + funny = reflectifunny

I love your blog and only wish I could have followed it from the beginning. Don't change a thing, stay genuine and show your ass any time you damn well please. Let the blog steer you, not the other way around.

  • Reply Grant January 6, 2010 at 11:03 pm

Alright the awesome-fest is over time for the internet snob to ruin the fun.

You are an amazing intellectual thoughtful comedic woman. Content wise I would not change a thing. Your layout however…

What does your header say about your site? I think that the picture is cool but it doesn't fit properly in the bounding box.

I you should use a nice pic of you up there. The more hip the better.

I would also like to see a wider space where you type all of your great stories. Narrow blogs bother me for one reason only. They stretch out post so that the sidebar content runs out long before the page comes to an end.

Normally I wouldn't say anything but you asked. None of this stuff is going to keep me from reading your site. Just something to think about.

I'm a fan of your more humorous posts myself.

  • Reply Hannah Miet January 7, 2010 at 12:51 am

    I agree with Langley.

Also, continue to post photos of your ass. Hurrah.

  • Reply Allie January 7, 2010 at 2:11 am

I love your humorous posts, but the reflective ones are pretty damn good as well. I AM SO JEALOUS OF YOUR BLOG.

  • Reply sandy January 7, 2010 at 2:27 am

I love that you shared how your blog has come so far- what a feeling that must be! That said, I like your mix of humor and reflection (I find I do the same) because as people we're not one-dimensional, so why should our blogs be?

Write to reflect the mood you're in- that's the most sincere, and it shows.

I enjoy your reflective posts as much as your funny ones. At the end of my read, in either case, I get the sense that I've learned a little more about the writer, you know?

    Best for 2010!

  • Reply Rachel January 7, 2010 at 2:28 am

    your blog is hilarious.
a beautiful outtake on what can be the harsh realities of life.
excellent soul writing, If i do say so.

  • Reply Rusty Hoe January 7, 2010 at 2:34 am

Be you. When you start trying to tap into what others want you lose what makes you fabulous. Why fix want aint broke?

(I wanna be a 20 something blogger (insert pout). Ok just caught a glance of my 36-year-old, saggy and spreading, post-2-kids, arse, fantasy over. Sigh.)

  • Reply Amanda January 7, 2010 at 4:58 am

You always make me laugh. Example: non sequitar picture of derriere. I can't spell in French. Please don't change. And as far as lay outs go – don't care – you're in my feed reader. Everyone's a whitey.

well, i'm super new, like as of a few seconds ago, so i'm afraid that i can offer no feedback. BUT, this post had me laughing. like, a lot! and i like those kinds of posts.

I agree with what everyone else is saying. Keep doing what you do, as you. It definately is why your blog is so good.
    But definately more ass pics!

  • Reply Hater Von G January 7, 2010 at 2:20 pm

I'm a newer reader, but I dig your blog the way it is. It's got both humorous posts and reflective posts, a good balance. I think you're real about things, which rocks. So stay the same… don't fix something that isn't broken!

    and i like your jeans.

okay your ass too. but im not a lesbian.

  • Reply Angie January 7, 2010 at 8:50 pm

We love your humourous writing, but that's just us. Who doesn't love a good laugh? Especially when it comes from your one-of-a-kind sense of humour! Keep up the great work!

  • Reply mil-lee-cents January 8, 2010 at 1:25 pm

Where to start? i think it must be said and the why must be said.

Your blog is one of the first I viewed after signing up last month. Not only are you a talented writer you are hillarious.
Your style brings people into a new arena. They have to jump out of the seriousness of life and have fun. You demand people to get the hell out of their box and laugh. The mind goes to a new and creative place.
Since i have been on this blog thing(I'm quite new to cyberspace) I have read a ton of blogs and yours is amazing.
Not trying to be too serious. I just admire your courage and your writing. I really hope you don't change a thing.

  • Reply Benny Paul January 13, 2010 at 3:58 am

I think you have a good balance between personal revelations and comments on culture, consumer products and the like. I think that you should make sure to maintain that balance.

  • Reply Benny Paul January 13, 2010 at 4:00 am

Also, I like the design. Maybe a few more pics on the sides would be cool, but I don't think the overall format should change.
